Next Meeting Friends of Portage Park: Aug. 5

The mission of the Portage Park Neighborhood Association Parks Committee is:

• To garner support from Chicago Park District Officials, elected officials, community leaders, local businesses and residents to bring about needed improvements to Portage and Dickinson Parks, ensure that they are safe and continue to be a beautiful and vital amenity to our vibrant community.
   
• To strive to promote a strong sense of community by working to develop and maintain sports programs, recreational activities, leisure services and park facilities that will enhance the quality of life for those of all ages, abilities and ethnic backgrounds.

Portage Park Subcommittee

This past summer, a group of concerned residents upset with conditions at both Portage and Dickinson got together to discuss how to improvements could be made. As a result of that discussion, a Parks Committee was formed under the Portage Park Neighborhood Association. Creating a Portage Park Advisory Council through the Park District (that would cover both Portage and Dickinson) is the next step in the process.

What is an advisory council?
The charge of an advisory council is to provide suggestions, comments and recommendations to the Park Supervisor and others within the park district, an advisory council helps create a stronger park system and improves park conditions and park programs. A council works in partnership with park staff and advises them of the needs, desires and concerns of the community.
